Berries in Abundance 6-19

This year has been a spectacular year for berries here at Hillside Gardens. Yesterday I went out with my little basket and harvested fat sweet blueberries, wild black berries, wine berries (wild raspberries), red raspberries, and strawberries. The wine berries were brought from the high Appalachian Mountains in NC, several years ago, but never produced anything until this year. Friday and Sat. I gathered about a pint! These are delicious sweet and very flavorful. They were climbing up my trees and were so abundant I couldn’t believe it. They aren’t quite as large as my red raspberries but are beautiful and slightly a different look. They like it shady – which is where they were when I collected several of the plants in a big patch of them several years ago. How exciting.
